Happy Birthday to Us!

This year marks the beginning of our 25th anniversary year! CESBA was officially incorporated April 28, 1999 by a small group of visionary educators who believed in adult and continuing education. Their stated mandate was “To promote and advance the cause of adult and continuing education.”

We are honoured to continue this goal by supporting innovative educators and diverse, life-changing programming in school boards that we could not have imagined 25 years ago.

Throughout the year, we will celebrate this milestone. We will reflect on how far we've come and envision where we would like to go in the next quarter century of Ontario adult and continuing education.

Handy Acronym Cheat Sheet

Our popular acronym sheet has been updated here! You'll find a comprehensive bilingual list of acronyms used in the adult and continuing education sector. If we have missed any, please email us at info@cesba.com

Please Let Andrea Respond (PLAR!)

Our PLAR expert, Andrea Murphy, will feature answers to frequently asked questions in this column.

Q: Do co-op credits attached to Grade 9 and 10 credits count when doing an assessment at the Grade 9 and 10 level for eligible Prior Learning Equivalent (PLE) credits?

A: Yes, they do! But where possible, do not attach co-op credits to Grade 9 and 10 previously earned credits. Instead, use the stand alone co-op credit course DC030 or any other previously earned Grade 11 or 12 credits.

Welcome, Angela!

CESBA is excited to welcome our Quality Assurance Support Auditor, Angela Butt. She will be joining our QA Auditor, Tammy Cantin, on site visits to school board PSW programs across Ontario.

Angela has been a nurse for 24 years and has a master's degree in nursing with a teaching focus. Following eight years as a front-line nurse in geriatric assessment and complex continuing care, Angela began working at Niagara College as a PSW educator. During her 16 years at Niagara College, Angela worked in many different roles and retired from the position of Dean of Health Sciences in 2023. She looks forward to working with and learning from CESBA and other PSW educators.

Black History Month and more

In February, we celebrate Black History Month. In Canada this year, the theme is Black Excellence: A Heritage to Celebrate; a Future to Build.

Here are some resources to recognize Black History next month:

  • Organizations and educational resources on the history of Black communities - Government of Canada

  • Black in Canada: 10 Stories – BBC

  • The Story of Africville – Canadian Museum for Human Rights

February 28 is Pink Shirt Day, to combat bullying. Find resources from CKNW Kids' Fund here.

The Equity and Inclusion Committee includes A&CE professionals from several member boards. The committee highlights interesting resources each month to offer new insights on diversity, equity and inclusion and to encourage continued discussion on these topics. We welcome new members. Please join us!
